History[]

As Yongbi's steed, Biryong was present during the former's stint as Lord Commander of the Black Lancers. When Yongbi rushed to Yogok Gorge after hearing about the trap the Grand General set up, Biryong became separated from his master because of the falling rocks and couldn't even enter the Gorge.[1] Later, he was seen alongside the Gold Bug, who had saved Yongbi's life.[2]

Plot[]

Yongbi the Invincible[]

Volume 1[]

Yongbi humorously traveled through the murim with his unwilling prisoner Goo Hwi. On the way he was accosted by some of the Black Snake assassins, but he dealt with them effortlessly. While setting up for the night, Biryong discovered a mysterious boy floating in the river. Fishing him out, Yongbi wondered where the rich-looking boy came from. In the morning, Yongbi made his presence known to the people pursuing him. Yongbi effortlessly dispatched the two men targeting the mysterious boy. When the boy woke up, he offered Yongbi a medallion and other expensive items to take him to Hobuk Province.

At the Geumcheonbo's Hobuk branch, Biryong was causing havoc in the stables, causing the workers to plead with a very drunk Yongbi to stop him. Yongbi told the workers to feed Biryong wine and meat instead of fodder which eventually calmed Biryong down. Later, Yongbi threw the Golden Medallion out the window and Biryong swallowed it before running off and Hwangbo Soong ordered all his men to give chase. Biryong skillfully evaded capture, broke into the stable and caused chaos by scattering the other horses. Later, Biryong and Yongbi were captured by Hong Ye-Mong and the Red Bloods. Both escape and upon reuniting, they both left after hearing about their execution.

Some time later, Yongbi's journey was delayed by Biryong's constipation. Suddenly, three men approached them and the eldest brother offered his help, mentioning that they ran an apothecary. To everyone's shock, the eldest brother thrusted his arm into Biryong's rear and removed the blockage which turned out to be the golden medallion. At that, he gave Yongbi some medicinal herbs and the three men left. When Yongbi inspected the item that gave Biryong constipation, he finally recognized it as the golden medallion and excitedly exclaims so, causing the three men to return.

Volume 2[]

The three men and Yongbi fight and the latter managed to defeat and kill them all. One by one, Biryong disposed their bodies by throwing them off a cliff, praying in between. They then made haste towards Mount Gwe-Heung. They found a fatally injured Goo Hwi there and evacuated him.

Some time later, they met up with the Gold Bug. Yongbi and the Gold Bug discussed the former's debt while travelling. Yongbi also revealed the Golden Medallion to the Gold Bug, and that he wanted Goo Hwi healed to discover the whereabouts of Yul Mugi. As Biryong pulled their cart, the Gold Bug's donkey plays around which irritated Biryong. Reaching their destination, the Gold Bug revealed to Yongbi the large ship he was hiding but they were suddenly interrupted by the crying of the donkey. Thinking Biryong and the donkey were being attacked by a tiger, Yongbi rushed to their aid only to find Biryong violating the male donkey. Humiliated, Yongbi quivered with anger on the ground while Biryong hid his head in shame.

When the Gold Bug and Yongbi go into a room on the ship, Biryong was found crouching in a corner seemingly penitent. The Gold Bug convinced Yongbi to forgive him and after Biryong left the room, he smugly revealed that he was only pretending to repent. As Gongson Seung treated Goo Hwi, Biryong nudged out his aides and started mimicking him. Eventually, Goo Hwi's pulse started returning to normal. With his consciousness in a dream-like state, he dreamed of being fed by Guanyin Bodhisattva but in reality, he was actually being fed mouth to mouth by Biryong who mushed up the food in his mouth first. Gongson Seung and his aides looked on disgusted and when Goo Hwi started discharging his tongue to seize the food from Biryong's tongue, Gongson Seung could not hold it any longer and rushed out to vomit.

Volume 2[]

With Yongbi going into an inn to cause trouble. Biryong noticed a group of horses in a stable nearby and approached them with perverted intentions. With Biryong approaching them menacingly, the horses hid behind a scarred and fearsome looking black horse. The scarred horse then charged the fence to intimidate Biryong, cracking it. At that, Biryong backed up and leaps on to the scarred horse, stomping him in the head. With the scarred horse unconscious, the other horses hid in the corner while Biryong approached them but he was suddenly interrupted by a man crashing through the window of the inn.

Volume 3[]

After finding out that Biryong had gotten drunk by licking the wine off the monk's body, Yongbi had to rely on Sanggwan Chaek's horse to pull his cart. Yongbi also flinged the monk into a nearby well as punishment for stealing his wine. As Yongbi's group continued their travels, Sanggwan Chaek's horse ran into a wire trap and freaked out, throwing all the occupants off the carriage. Then the assassins jumped out of hiding to attack during the confusion. Yongbi prepared to fight but unfortunately, Biryong fell on and crushed him. After Sanggwan Chaek effortlessly killed all of the assassins. Yongbi then inspected Sanggwan Chaek's horse saying that he died instantly, adding that Biryong was lucky he wasn't the one pulling the cart.

Volume 4[]

At the Hweyang Villa, Hwan-Ryeong and Mi-Ryeong planned to interfere in the fight between Yongbi and the Asura Blood Sect members by creating a distraction. They tied bundles of hay to the horses in the stable and lit the hay on fire but Biryong hindered them by putting out their embers.

Sanggwan Chaek then retrieved the Golden Medallion, revealing himself as the traitor. Biryong goes beserk and lept over the demonists towards the unconscious Yongbi. Hwan-Ryeong assisted Biryong by triggering a stampede of horses and unleashing a barrage of arrows at the demonists which also punctured the barrels of oil strapped to the horses. Biryong managed to retrieve and escape with Yongbi's body. Eventually, the oil leaked all over the villa is ignited, creating a massive blaze.

Then a man named FlatFish took up the challenge while Yongbi also arrived. Biryong goes berserk but was unable to shake FlatFish off while Yongbi became acquainted with the woman. Seeing Yongbi, Biryong flipped over and crushed FlatFish before treading over to greet his master lovingly.

Later at the "Bihak Sect's" base, Biryong stealthily consumed several koi fishes in a pond and hid the evidence. Yul Mugi witnessed this but promised Biryong not to tell on him and after musing about the Golden Castle, he added that Yongbi might not survive the search for the castle. In the morning, disguised as the Bihak Sect, the Red Bloods supplied Yongbi with wine and dried meat. As Yongbi's group prepared to leave, they noticed that Biryong and the mare, Arong, were missing. Then they hear noises coming from the bushes and the Red Bloods go gather weapons thinking it may be a tiger while Yongbi worried that it may be Biryong violating Arong. Suddenly Biryong came flying out and crushed Yongbi and Arong walked out of the bushes, stepped over to them, and repeatedly stomped Biryong in the genitals. With Yongbi and Biryong unconscious, their bodies were loaded onto a cart with Arong pulling it. Then Sohsoh and Yul Mugi rode off, beginning the journey to the Golden Castle.

Volume 8[]

Later in the Muhae Valley, during Jeok Seong's fight with Yongbi, Biryong sensed that his master was in trouble and rushed off his location.

Volume 11[]

Biryong eventually found the unconscious Yongbi underground. Meanwhile, a group of martial artists traversed the underground passages. One of them noticed something and threw his spear but with it seemingly hitting nothing, he came to the conclusion that he was imagining things. When the group of martial artists left, Biryong emerged from the shadows revealing that the spear had struck his buttocks. As Biryong squirmed in pain, Ilgak showed up and praises Biryong for holding off his screaming in order to protect his master. Then Ilgak removed the spear from Biryong and proceeded to correct Yongbi's distorted ki flow.

Soon after, Biryong sense that Arong was in trouble and urged Yongbi to hurry to her location. Arong defended Yul Mugi from the hordes of madmen but started to get tired. The boy yelled at her to leave and attempted to shield her from an attack but Biryong arrived in time to save them. After, Yul Mugi tearfully greeted Yongbi while Arong pummeled Biryong for his perverted advances.

Volume 12[]

Later, with Hong Ye-Mong and Yongbi confronting each other. Jeok Seong arrived as well and approached Yongbi, Biryong galloped over and lovingly greeted his old friend. Jeok Seong confirmed Biryong's identity but continued on towards Yongbi having no quarrel with the horse.

Volume 13[]

With Yongbi revealing the truth about what happened during his time with the Black Lancers, Jeok Seong was unable to accept the truth and ran off, throwing a tantrum in the process. Yongbi and Biryong followed shortly after but not before Hong Ye-Mong reminded Yongbi to give himself up to the Red Bloods after he was finished with his business.

Volume 14[]

Yongbi and Biryong split up having reached a fork in the road. Biryong then discovered the Golden Castle and as he approached it, he ran into a sleeping Goo Hwi. At first, Biryong was ecstatic upon reuniting with Goo Hwi but then remembered how he and his master had treated Goo Hwi. When Goo Hwi wokes up, Biryong pummeled the former in attempt to take him out. Angered, Goo Hwi got up and decimated the environment around him and then wondered if the beating he received from a horse was a dream. Biryong played dead but eventually, Goo Hwi tricked the horse into revealing his deception. Recognizing Biryong, Goo Hwi was about to take revenge on the horse when someone in the distance caught his attention.

Seeing Sanggwan Chaek, Biryong urged Goo Hwi to go to the Golden Castle. As Goo Hwi crossed the bridges, looked back and witnessed Biryong trying to severe the ropes to the suspension bridge. Goo Hwi angrily marched back and beat the fearful horse.

During his brawl with Goo Hwi, Biryong sensed something when the Lightning God's Blue Dragon Sword fell into a body water causing a reaction to occur.

Volume 15[]

As everyone everyone evacuated the volcano, Biryong did the opposite and galloped to the Golden Castle, looking for Yongbi. He and Yongbi somehow managed to escape the volcano eruption.

Some time later in an unknown place, a young man was drawn to a noise near a river. Biryong who was in the river fishing, jumped out scaring the young man away (thinking Biryong was a dragon). Biryong goes to the young man's home to return the man's sack and the boy's grandpa convinced him that Biryong was not a dragon but a horse. The next day, the young man goes to fish and play with Biryong. Another day passed and in the morning, the young man heard a sound and left thinking it was Biryong. However, it turned out to be a group of intimidating men. The man in front greeted the grandpa, noting that they had been looking for him for a very long time. After the group of men (called 'The Five Tigers of Pachu') killed the grandpa and grandson, they start arguing when they couldn't find the old man's enormous wealth. Biryong then arrived and saw the corpses of the grandpa and grandson. Seeing that Biryong was a fine-looking horse, the men planned to capture and sell him off. One of the men approached Biryong and was instantly kicked and killed, and then the horse charged the rest of the men. The men managed to subdue Biryong with chains and changed their plans to eating the horse instead.

In a cave, Yongbi heard a commotion and goes outside to see what the source of it was. It turned out that Biryong managed to survive and escape by dragging the beams he was chained to with him and even killed another of the group of the men in the process. Recognizing Yongbi as the owner of the horse, they attacked to avenge their fallen comrades but were easily dealt with by Yongbi. Later, as Yongbi cremate the bodies of the grandpa and grandson, he thought back to Jeok Seong and criticized himself for antagonizing Jeok Seong when they were reunited instead of greeting him in a friendly manner. Yongbi then left to drink the night away with Biryong.

At some point, they met up with the Gold Bug and the old man asked what Yongbi's plans were. The young man responded that he would keep his promise of presenting himself to the Red Bloods and to marry Biryong off (to Arong).

Yongbi the Invincible - A Side Story[]

Volume 1[]

Later, two assassins spy on Yongbi. When Yongbi went to sleep, they discussed among themselves if they should strike but ultimately decided to wait for reinforcements. Then they noticed the presence of Biryong behind them and recognized that the severed arm in the horse's mouth belonged to their reinforcements. Yongbi confronted the assassins and commanded them to reveal their leader's location or the man who commissioned their operation but they refused. After killing the assassins, Yongbi made himself known to the young man (from chapter 8) hiding in a tree and orders him to come down. When the young man declined, Yongbi knocked him down with his staff. Waking up later, the young man called out to Yongbi and then found himself tied up. In a threatening manner, Yongbi told the young man to identify himself as the latter knew of him. When the young man tried to pass himself off as Goo Hwi, Yongbi ordered Biryong to throw him off a cliff, and the horse started dragging him away.

Volume 3[]

As Yongbi dealt with two formidable opponents (Heukweol and Yeonhwa), Biryong just slept. At dawn after taking care of his enemies, Yongbi made his way over to a collapsed building and peer inside only to find Biryong sleeping peacefully among the rubble. Angered that Biryong was sleeping so calmly after all the young man had been through, Yongbi punished his steed.
