Yongbi and the Black Lancers.
The Black Lancers, also known as the Black Nachal by the barbarians, was the deadliest cavalry regiment in the country serving under the Grand General's Command (대장군부, Daejang-gunbu), the most powerful military organization in the country, under the direct command of the Emperor.
History[]
In the past, fearing that the barbarians will one day invade the Middle Kingdom, the Grand General ordered the Black Lancers to exterminate the Horselords of the borderlands.[1] Under the command of Yongbi, the Black Lancers waged thirty battles leading from the South to the North,[2] and successfully defeated the warriors of the Horselords and their prince which forced the tribe's women, old, and children to sell themselves into slavery to survive.[3]
Despite nearly annihilating the Horselord's forces in the final battle, the Black Lancers perished alongside them in a trap set by the Grand General with the only survivors being Yongbi and Jeok Seong.
Structure[]
The Black Lancers were a cavalry regiment serving under the Grand General's command so the Grand General and his chief aide Hwang San were the immediate superiors of the Black Lancers.[4] Serving directly underneath the Grand General was Yongbi who acted as lord commander on the battlefield. Then there were sub-groups such as the White Tiger Squad led by captain Jeok Seong and the Black Dragon Squad led by Gwi Doh.[5]

- The members of the Black Lancers have "tainted pasts" suggesting that they were criminals.[6]
- This is most likely the case considering that Jeok Seong was arrested for murder and subsequently became a member of the Black Lancers. The other members were also taken in by the authorities before being inducted into the regiment.[7]
- In two years, the Black Lancers lost nine Lord Commanders in battle with the two previous ones before Yongbi confirmed to have been killed by their own men.[8]
