The Black Snake's Stronghold on Mount Gwe-Heung.
The Black Snake (
History[]
In the past, the Black Snake fought the Cheonwoong Faction which resulted in many casualties, the conflict eventually ended when they brokered a truce.[1] Goo Hwi claimed that the Cheonwoong Faction started this conflict first by killing some of his men.[2]
At some point, Goo Hwi was captured and thrown in prison by Yongbi so the Black Snakes gathered to free him. Due to a series of unfortunate events, the band was separated from Goo Hwi and had their stronghold burnt down. They eventually reunite but not before another series of hilarious misunderstandings.[3]
Soon after, the Goo Hwi and the Black Snake participated in the search for the Golden Castle and the Lightning God's Blue Dragon Sword, not because they were interested in them but to track down and take revenge on Yongbi and Cruel Moon Archdemon.[4] They eventually flee the Muhae Valley due to the volcanoes eruption. Two months later, Yul Mugi paid a visit to the rebuilt Black Snake's stronghold and proposed to create a competent information gathering group under the Black Snake's command to which Goo Hwi accepts.[5]
Many years later, the Black Snake allied with the Murim Alliance to fight against the Asura Blood Sect.[6]
Structure[]
The Black Snake is a large assassin band lead by Goo Hwi, the Heaven Ravager King. Second-in-command is his younger sister Sohee the only female in the band. The band has many sub-groups within its ranks including: the Four Tigers.[7] In addition, before he left, Wang In was the assassination instructor and captain of the Iron Blood Squad.[8]

Notes & Trivia[]
- Despite there being no direct mention of the Black Snake in the Gosu time period, it appears that Dang Gan is a surviving member, being a student of Goo Hwi and possessing the band's trademark black snake tattoo on his arm.
- While the Black Snake are a powerful band of assassins, their information network is seriously inept,[9] leading to everyone calling them "incredibly powerful warriors who are blind and deaf."[5]
- The Black Snakes never attack merchants or common folk for private gain, in line with how honorable Goo Hwi is.[10]
- Their loyalty towards their leader and the sense of solidarity among them is second to none in all of the murim.[11]
