Chapter 15: At night, Yongbi recalls his time with the Black Lancers. During a battle, one of his subordinates, Hwang Inbok, approaches him and expresses his concern with the defenders of the castle being elders as his own parents were elderly. Yongbi dismisses Hwang Inbok's concerns and reminds him to stop thinking about such things as it can cost him his life in battle.
The next day, Gwi Doh gives Yongbi the casualty report which lists Hwang Inbok among the deceased. Then the flashback switches to the Gold Bug informing Yongbi that he had found the whereabouts of Hwang Inbok's parents (revealing that the elderly couple from chapter 1 were his parents). The Gold Bug advises Yongbi that it is not necessary for him to inform Hwang Inbok's parents of his demise and young man reluctantly agrees.
Back in the present, two assassins spy on Yongbi. When Yongbi goes to sleep, they discuss among themselves if they should strike but ultimately decides to wait for reinforcements. Then they notice the presence of Biryong behind them and recognizes that the severed arm in the horse's mouth belonged to their reinforcements. Yongbi confronts the assassins and commands them to reveal their leader's location or the man who commissioned their operation but they refuse. After killing the assassins, Yongbi makes himself known to the young man (from chapter 8) hiding in a tree and orders him to come down. When the young man declines, Yongbi knocks him down with his staff.
Waking up later, the young man calls out to Yongbi and then finds himself tied up. In a threatening manner, Yongbi tells the young man to identify himself as the latter knows of him. When the young man tries to pass himself off as Goo Hwi, Yongbi orders Biryong to throw him off a cliff.
