Chapter 17: In a flashback, Yongbi leads the Black Lancers in pursuit of their enemy and eventually corners them at a river bank. The barbarians notice the Black Lancers and prepare to resist but Yongbi unexpectedly tells his men to standby. As the Black Lancers rests and have a meal, Gwi Doh and Jeok Seong converses about why Yongbi is standing by instead of attacking.
At nightfall, Yongbi eavesdrops on some of his subordinates talking about sharing wills with each other for safekeeping. One of them, Yook Somyung, reveals his life story, noting that the reason he hadn't written a will was because his simple-minded older brother wouldn't be able to understand it. Elsewhere, the barbarians attempts to escape through the river but Yongbi notices them and orders his men to attack. The Black Lancers ferociously descends onto the helpless and panicking barbarians...
In the morning, Jeok Seong informs Yongbi that they have not received any casualties while the barbarians were completely annihilated. Yongbi then tells Yook Somyung that he should stop focusing on returning home as such distractions can cost him his life in battle.
In the present, after wiping out the group of assassins, Yongbi recalls that Yook Somyung died in the battle at the Yogok Gorge.
