Gongson Seung (공손승, Gongsonseung) is the most skilled physician in the Middle Kingdom known as The Godly Doctor of a Thousand Hands (천수신의, Cheonsusin-ui).

Appearance & Personality[]

Gongson Seung is a solemn looking man with long eyebrows that droop over the side, a long black goatee, and a Fu Manchu moustache. His black hair is parted down the middle and tied into a traditional bun.

Goo Hwi mentioned that Gongson (now in his old age) is half-senile.[1] From his interactions in the past, he is generally a respectful individual towards those he deem worthy of his respect such as the Gold Bug. However, he is scornful towards people he think are disrespectful.

Plot[]

Yongbi the Invincible[]

Volume 2[]

On the Gold Bug's ship, Gongson Seung, treated Goo Hwi with acupuncture. Later, Goo Hwi's pulse started returning to normal. With his consciousness in a dream-like state, he dreamed of being fed by Guanyin Bodhisattva but in reality, he was actually being fed mouth to mouth by Biryong who mushed up the food in his mouth first. Gongson Seung and his aides look on disgusted and when Goo Hwi started discharging his tongue to seize the food from Biryong's tongue, Gongson Seung could not hold it any longer and rushed out to vomit.

Volume 3[]

In the morning, Yongbi left. On the deck of the ship Gongson Seung expressed his contempt for Yongbi, and questioned the Gold Bug on why he would lend enormous sums of money to such a disrespectful person. The Gold Bug replied that Yongbi was a man worth lending money to, even if it's such a great sum because he was someone who was shouldering the lives of thirty thousand people.

Volume 13[]

At an unknown place, Gongson Seung repeatedly called out to the Gold Bug and upon catching his attention, informed him that the chieftain they were supposed to meet had returned. He questioned the Gold Bug if the place they were in was the first time he met Yongbi and if he was rude from the beginning. The Gold Bug replied that Yongbi spoke casually with him from the start, which irritated Gongson Seung. Then in a meeting with the leader of a nomadic tribe, the Gold Bug traded a large chest of gold for ownership of one thousand slaves. After eating and drinking in a banquet thrown by the tribe (one Gongson was very reluctant to participate in), he and his master goes to observe another tribe from atop a cliff. Gongson Seung questioned if the tribe were the 'thirty thousand lives' that Yongbi was supporting and the Gold Bug confirmed it was.

In their ensuing conversation, it was also revealed that even though Yongbi was sending money to help the tribe, he was not doing it out of regret for slaughtering their families in the past. Yongbi does not care how the Gold Bug spent the money and or if it actually helped them or not, all he cares is that the money is being sent to them. Then the Gold Bug and Gongson Seung mused about how Yongbi was able to escape Yogok Gorge despite being separated from Biryong. The Gold Bug speculated that the reason Yongbi was helping the Horselords tribe is because their Prince was the one who saved Yongbi's life.

The Gold Bug noted that since it was not Yongbi's own will that kept him alive, he does not feel any responsibilities to help the Horselords and that the money he sent was only a minimum payment for letting him keep breathing. Furthermore the Gold Bug revealed that the tribe was even refusing to receive that minimum payment. Ultimately, he commented that Yongbi was the only one who hasn't been able to move on. However, the Gold Bug was intrigued in the direction Yongbi's life would take when the young's man will is rekindled. Gongson Seung humorously remarked that it might be towards a money vault.

Yongbi the Invincible - A Side Story[]

Volume 1[]

On top of a cliff, Gongson Seung gave a report to the Gold Bug about the terrain of a nearby forest was really rough and then noted that they haven't found Yongbi's body. They then had a conversation about how Yongbi was able to defeat the "Demon's Wrath" (explained here), a tactical maneuver used by the Secret Sword School in their attempt to kill Yongbi. Then Gongsong Seung received a report from their search party noting that they were still searching for Yongbi.

Volume 2[]

On the Gold Bug's ship, the Gold Bug provided Yongbi with the documentation and Intel the young man requested. On the deck of the ship, Gongson Seung fed Biryong with meat laced with drugs, intending to obtain some of Briyong's seed with a decoy mare. The plan ultimately failed due to Biryong's rampage.
