Gwak Yeom, the Jangbaek Sage (장백진인 곽염, Jangbaegjin-in Gwag-yeom) was the Murim High Lord of the Murim Alliance.
Appearance & Personality[]
He was a strong looking individual with well-defined cheekbones, black hair, thick moustache, and a extremely long beard that drops past his chest. He also wore a gold coronet crown and robes befitting his status.
As the Murim High Lord, Gwak Yeom's actions were always for the benefit of the Murim Alliance, even if they were unscrupulous deeds such as ordering the elimination of factions and gosu that bothered him. When the Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect's usefulness were exhausted in his eyes, he planned to betray them. However, he did care about his subordinates and thought that they didn't deserve to die for his actions.

History[]
Some time in the past, the Murim Alliance allied with the Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect before the latter made themselves known to the world. Under this partnership, Gwak Yeom had the Sect annihilate many factions and gosu that were bothering him.[1]
Plot[]
Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect[]
After the death of Mak Sapyeong, the Murim High Lord decided to cut ties with the Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect and sent a secret emissary to the Baekma Valley to propose an alliance. The Murim High Lord was having a meeting with the other core faction leaders when his emissary returned to give him the news that the Baekma Valley accepted the offer. After announcing the news to everyone else, he is suddenly alerted to the arrival of Hwan Sa. Greeting him privately, Hwan Sa quickly realised with a grin that the Murim Alliance was planning on betraying them. With Hwan Sa revealing what they had done for the Murim Alliance, the Murim High Lord denounced Hwan Sa before calling for his guards to surround the Heavenly King. Hwan Sa chided the Murim Alliance for their decision as he suddenly dissipated, telling the High Lord they would suffer the consequences. Seeing the trouble this could cause, the High Lord hurriedly relays the news.
After the Seven Slayers of the Sky Gorge ravage, slaughter and destroy the leaders, members and bases of the main righteous factions of the Murim Alliance, a flustered Gwak Yeom tells his men that they would defend the headquarters after being told the enemy had arrived at their domain. Going out to confront Hyeol Bi, Gwak Yeom recalled Hwan Sa's words on the Heavenly King, before challenging him to a one-on-one battle. Hyeol Bi accepts before nonchalantly taking Gwak Yeom's strongest attack head-on. Disappointed by it, Hyeol Bi proceeded to slaughter them all with a vicious technique.
Powers & Abilities[]
Since he was the Murim High Lord, Gwak Yeom was no doubt a competent martial artist. His strongest attack was shown to cause serious damage but he was no match for gosu of Hyeol Bi's caliber who effortlessly slaughtered him.[2]
