Personality[]

He is a constant joker and easy-going man even during serious situations. He is generally cheerful and respectful, especially towards Yongbi, who he addresses as "Master Yongbi" and "Dear Husband". At times he can be quite selfless, expecting nothing in return for saving Jeok Seong's life. Even after accidentally receiving a grievous sword slash from Yongbi, he pleaded with Hong Ye-Mong to not hate him hoping that their relationship is not strained further. Having known Hong Ye-Mong since her childhood, he cares a lot for her and is protective of her. Elder Muk also constantly teases her on her relationship with Yongbi, hilariously incurring her wrath every time.

History[]

Some time in the past, Elder Muk accompanied Hong Ye-Mong and her father Hong Gi-Moon to the Grand General's Command for a short sojourn. There, he met Yongbi for the first time and had a short chat with him before leaving.[1]

Many years later, he arranged a meeting between Hong Ye-Mong and Yongbi through the Gold Bug which resulted in their engagement.[1]

Elder Muk was also responsible for saving Jeok Seong's life with his healing after the tragedy at Yogok Gorge but the events surrounding how he encountered the man is unknown and if he was even the one to rescue him from the Gorge.[2]

Yongbi the Invincible[]

Volume 4[]

As the Red Bloods inspected the corpses of their two dead agents, Elder Muk noted that the the extreme decay of the corpses were no doubt the work of a Demonic Technique. After finding out that Hong Ye-Mong went to confront their enemies by herself, Elder Muk ordered Commander Zhang Cheolhwan to break their web of pursuit and have the agents surround the village. He then quickly headed inside the village.

Elder Muk strolled through the village, calling out for Hong Ye-Mong, and soon found himself surrounded by the zombie villagers but he paid them no mind and started joking around. As the zombies were about to attack him, his disciples, the Four Yellow Dragons, appeared. Three of them prepared to fight the zombies while one joined Elder Muk in his antics. After the entire village was leveled by Hong Ye-Mong, three of the Four Yellow Dragons rushed to free Elder Muk and their fellow disciple who were buried under rubble but they were both found unharmed and still engaged in their antics.

He and his disciples then travelled through the village, eventually meeting up with Hong Ye-Mong. Elder Muk examined the corpse of Cruel Moon Archdemon's clone and identified that the distortion of the skull was due to the Phantasmal Demonic Bone Reaver technique. At that, Hong Ye-Mong ordered to have every agent deployed in the web of pursuit to close in on the village. However, Zhang Cheolhwan fearfully revealed to her that the web of pursuit was disbanded and that the agents were already gathered at the village. Elder Muk then forced Commander Zhang to take the blame for those orders, before beating him.

Hong Ye-Mong suddenly realized that the user of the Phantasmal Soul Technique would be able to easily extract the Golden Castle's location from Yul Mugi's mind and with that information, the Asura Blood Sect members would be after the Golden Medallion next. She then gave orders to send word to Mi-Ryeong and Hwan-Ryeong to extricate Yongbi immediately. With Yongbi as the topic at hand, Elder Muk revealed that Yongi and Hong Ye-Mong got engaged a year ago and rumors spread among the agents much to Hong Ye-Mong's chagrin.

Later, on the Red Blood's ship, Elder Muk approached Hong Ye-Mong and told her not to worry about her "dear husband". Hong Ye-Mong angrily responded by sending him flying, noting that she was concerned about the Golden Medallion, not Yongbi.

Volume 5[]

After the events at the Cheonwoong Faction's Hweyang Villa, Hwan-Ryeong and Mi-Ryeong led Elder Muk and Hong Ye-Mong to a cave where Biryong was hiding the unconscious Yongbi. They took Yongbi to safety and gave him medical aid. On the Red Blood's ship, Yongbi goes berserk from his nightmare as servants tried to hold him down. Seeing this scene, Hong Ye-Mong questioned Elder Muk on his competence as a healer and the latter reassured her. When he alluded to her and Yongbi's relationship, Hong Ye-Mong sent him flying off the ship. As the ship sailed off, Elder Muk desperately swam to catch up.

Volume 6[]

Elder Muk disguised himself as part of the Red Blood's plan involving Yongbi. In the morning elsewhere, Yongbi woke up to find that he had received medical assistance. Then the door to the hut opened and in came an elderly man (Elder Muk in disguise) and woman. As Yongbi put on his clothes, Elder Muk informed him that someone else brought him here and that the old couple only give him a place to sleep. Yongbi then examined the hole in his robe and remembered his battle with Cruel Moon Archdemon, and expressed disappointment for not being able to anticipate Sanggwan Chaek's betrayal. The elderly man also suggested that Yongbi should go thank the person that brought him to the couple's place. Yongbi does so and returned with Sohsoh (Hong Ye-Mong in disguise) Back at the elderly man's residence, Yongbi questioned the woman on how she rescued him and why some of his belongings were missing. The woman told him, adding that she spent his money on his treatment, and burnt his other belongings (Sohee's underwear).

She then procured the Golden Medallion. At that, Yongbi got serious and questioned the woman who she really was and what she wanted from him. Elder Muk (still in disguise) laughed, praising Yongbi for seeing through their ploy and took a seat. He introduced themselves as members of the Bihak Sect, an information gathering faction. After informing Yongbi that they know all about him, Elder Muk proposed a collaboration between them but Yongbi responded by cutting the table to pieces and held him at sword point, rejecting his proposal. Unperturbed, Elder Muk informed Yongbi that two conditions must be met to find the Golden Castle; the Golden Medallion and knowledge of the castle's location, adding that they had Yul Mugi with them who knew the location. Yongbi agrees to the Elder Muk's terms that he would receive all of the treasure in the Golden Castle while the Bihak Sect would receive the Lightning God's Blue Dragon Sword. Yongbi then requested that the number of people accompanying him be kept to a minimum and Elder Muk readily agreed, adding that they would only send one person to accompany him, a highly skilled agent named Sohsoh. Later at the Bihak Sect's base, Yongbi approached and greeted Yul Mugi.

With everything set, Elder Muk and Hong Ye-Mong returned to their ship and took off their disguises. Soon after, Elder Muk informed Hong Ye-Mong that they have found the location the Golden Castle was in. Next morning, disguised as the Bihak Sect, the Red Bloods supplied Yongbi with wine and dried meat. When Yongbi's group left, the Red Bloods removed their disguises and a mysterious man spying on them released a messenger hawk. The Red Bloods also found the remains of the koi fishes Biryong had eaten earlier. At first, the Red Bloods thought it was the work of Elder Muk but the latter figured out the true culprit and scolded the former for feeding Biryong fodder instead of wine and meat. Then they wondered how they were going to pay the enormous rental fees for the koi fish.

Volume 8[]

Elder Muk was leading a unit of Red Bloods agents through the Muhae Valley and after finding a message from Hong Ye-Mong, he commanded a group of agents to trail the mistress while he and his disciples, the Four Yellow Dragons, would search for Yongbi.

Later underground, Jeok Seong approached an unconscious Yongbi and prepared to kill him but Elder Muk and his disciples arrived in time to stop the man from doing so. Elder Muk and the man had an argument and ultimately, the latter left because the man owed a debt to Elder Muk for saving his life in the past. However, Jeok Seong noted that he would come back later to kill Yongbi. With the man gone, Elder Muk and his disciples gave Yongbi medical aid. As they tended to Yongbi, he kept briefly waking up and returning to his comatose state right after.

Volume 9[]

Elder Muk and his disciples eventually finish treating Yongbi who was healing at an incredible rate. After a while, Elder Muk and his disciples were having a meal when Yongbi's body suddenly rose. Reliving the past in his comatose state, Yongbi cut down his attackers and then killed Hwang San. However, in reality, Elder Muk went over to examine him and Yongbi unconsciously drew his sword and slashed Elder Muk, gravely wounding him. One of the Four Yellow Dragons attempted to retaliate but Elder Muk stopped him. Yongbi then witnessed the collapse of the entrance to Yogok Gorge in his dream and rushed towards it. In the real world, his body wandered off. The Four Yellow Dragons then evacuate Elder Muk.

Volume 10[]

Somewhere in the Muhae Valley, the Red Bloods agents informed Hong Ye-Mong of the presence of a large number of elite Murim Alliance agents. With this information, Hong Ye-Mong mused about the Murim Alliance's goals and intentions. Ultimately, Hong Ye-Mong ordered a full retreat. Then, the Four Yellow Dragons arrived and presented the heavily injured Elder Muk to her, noting that they were attending Yongbi's wounds when he suddenly went berserk and unconsciously cut down Elder Muk.

Volume 11[]

Hong Ye-Mong ordered the Red Bloods to retreat and evacuate Elder Muk while she goes deal with some business in the Muhae Valley. Before being evacuated, Elder Muk told Hong Ye-Mong to forgive Yongbi for slashing him.

Volume 15[]

At the Red Bloods' headquarters, Elder Muk recovered from his injuries sustained in the Muhae Valley and Hong Ye-Mong rushed over to hug him. Later at night, they conversed about how they haven't found a trace of Yongbi and that means he was still alive. Hong Ye-Mong solemnly pondered about Yongbi but then Elder Muk made a perverted joke and she angrily sent him flying into the sky.

Some time later, he and Hong Ye-Mong visited Lee Serin for information on Yongbi's whereabouts.

Yongbi the Invincible - A Side Story[]

Volume 2[]

Elder Muk was having a meal in a shabby village. After overhearing that the young man that stayed in their village last night went to confront the bandits preying on their village, the villagers scrambled to make sure that the bandits don't think they hired the young man to eliminate them. Elder Muk then paid for his meal and left. On the way up the mountains, he ran into the young man from before, who seemed to have gone mad and rabid. Elder Muk prepared to defend himself but the man just rushed past him. On top a cliff, Elder Muk met with his disciple and the latter informs him that they, the Four Yellow Dragons, haven't found Yongbi yet. Before heading off to another area to look for Yongbi, Elder Muk decided to eliminate the Biweol mountain bandits but when he reached their stronghold, he found that the bandits had already been massacred.

Volume 4[]

Meeting up with Yongbi, they had a comedic exchange and Elder Muk provided Yongbi with a map containing the information the latter asked for. Their ensuing conversation revealed that Yongbi has strong suspicions on the identity of the commissioner for the Secret Sword School. Elder Muk then stated he will find someone to assist Yongbi in interrogating the Secret Sword School's master. Even after failing the his test and being reminded of his failure to read Sanggwan Chaek's true intentions, Yongbi vehemently refused aid but finally gave in when Elder Muk started talking about payment.

Between the events of Yongbi the Invincible and Gosu (The Master)...

Elder Muk was involved in the Old Murim Alliance's war against the Asura Blood Sect. The war ended with the Blood Sect's defeat and with the Murim Alliance achieving a Pyrrhic victory. It is unknown if Elder Muk survived the war.[3]

Powers and Abilities[]

While Elder Muk never engaged in battle in the story, he is confident that there are fewer than ten men in the entire murim that can face him in single combat.[4] A testament to his supposed strength is that he was able to unleash a large wave of ki on command. Since he carries a sword around, it is presumed he is capable of using it in combat.

Medical Arts: While medicine isn't his specialty, Elder Muk is still an accomplished healer having saved Yongbi's life on more than one occasion,[4] and Jeok Seong's life after the latter had received gruesome injuries all over his body.[2] He claims that in all his years of healing, he never once suffered any mishap.[5]
