History[]

Some time in the past, Okcheonbi succeeded Dokgo Hyeolhu as the Grand Prelate of the Asura Blood Sect but it is unknown when he exactly did so. Before the events of Yongbi the Invincible, the eighth Prelate of the Blood Sect, Cruel Moon Archdemon, noted that the Grand Prelate was in a long slumber which spurred the Prelate to go search for the Lightning God's Blue Dragon Sword in the Middle Kingdom to wake him up.[1] Okcheonbi woke up regardless since he ordered Mad Blood Archdemon to go stop Cruel Moon Archdemon's actions and summon him back to the Sect.[2]

He later showed up in another flashback issuing Cruel Moon Archdemon to be wary of the Middle Kingdom, regarding the potential strength of the Murim.

Volume 12[]

Just before his death, Cruel Moon Archdemon spoke to a vision of the Grand Prelate and prayed that the latter fulfill their dream of conquering the Middle Kingdom.

Between the events of Yongbi the Invincible and Gosu (The Master)...

At some point, Okcheonbi was given the Dan ( () (Stone of Life; 생명의돌)) by a blue-eyed sorcerer from the edge of the earth to the West to heal his sickly and corpse-like body, allowing him to achieve his dream of invading the Middle Kingdom.[3]

Okcheonbi leading the Asura Blood Sect

After at least a decade of Mad Blood Archdemon's declaration of war, Grand Prelate Okcheonbi was at the forefront of the Asura Bood Sect's invasion of the Middle Kingdom being the leader of the Sect. When the Blood Sect marched from their base in the north, a coalition consisting of the Murim Alliance of righteous factions and the chaotic factions gathered to oppose them leading to a long and fierce war. What Okcheonbi did during the war is largely unknown. However, it is known is that Okcheonbi fought Yongbi and Goo Hwi at the same time.[4] Even with the power of the Dan, the Grand Prelate was defeated and his pressure points were destroyed by his opponents' techniques, rendering him unable to use ki-based techniques.[5] The long and fierce war eventually ended with the annihilation of the Asura Blood Sect.[6]

Okcheonbi Defeated

However, despite losing the battle, Okcheonbi ultimately survived and went into hiding after the war. According to Okcheonbi, the Dan kept his body alive otherwise it would have rotted into dust and he was unable to die or live, only breathe, like a living corpse. Even with the power of the Dan, he was unable to fully restore the pressure points destroyed during the war. At some point, he was found by Hwan Sa and the Spirit Lord taught him a special technique of the Life Drain Technique to recover his powers. The training method is where a person accumulate ki by feeding a vampiric tree their own flesh and blood to grow it into a spirit-eating tree but Okcheonbi's tree was unique in that Hwan Sa grew it using his sorcery and the spiritual energy of the Dan, allowing it to absorb even formless ki in its vicinity as nutrients.[5]

Gosu (The Master)[]

Revived Heavenly Destruction Sect[]

Many decades after the great war, Okcheonbi subtly dropped clues to lure the elders of the Sage Forest to the Sky Gorge Mountain. However, they came earlier than predicted so he set up an encounter to buy time.[5] When the elders infiltrated the mountain, Okcheonbi maneuvered his clone in a place known as the Crouching Devil Palace to greet Goo Hwi, Yongbi, and Ilgak after Yongbi accidentally knocked down a barrier stone. His appearance shocked Ilgak greatly as Okcheonbi was long thought to be dead.[7] Okcheonbi's clone confronted the three elders from the Sage Forest and Yongbi took the initiative, striking first with a powerful attack. However, the clone deflected the attack, hitting Ilgak who managed to block it but got sent flying back. Yongbi goes to check up on the monk and they started quarreling. Then Okcheonbi spoke to the Heaven Ravager King about resuming the fight they put off during the war and both gosu subsequently released an immense amount of ki before clashing.[8]

Okcheonbi's clone was being overwhelmed by Goo Hwi in their clash and the former complimented Goo Hwi on his strength and how he can't imagine how much training his opponent went through to overcome his limits in the past. In response, the Heaven Ravager King expressed his disappointment that Okcheonbi's martial power had declined and goaded the latter to face him with the full might of his fearsome Dark Blood Demonic Techniques. Okcheonbi granted Goo Hwi that wish and unleashed a powerful technique. Goo Hwi took the technique head on and eventually defeated Okcheonbi's clone. With no obstacles in their way, the elderly trio of the Sage Forest eventually discovered another of Okcheonbi's clone; decaying and chained to a chair in a room. Okcheonbi greeted the trio.[9] In their ensuing conversation, Okcheonbi revealed exaggerated information on the Dan and a false story about what had happened to him. In the end, he tasked the trio with finding and destroying the Dan before killing his clone by causing a tremor in the room, breaking off rocks from the ceiling to crush it to pieces.[10]

However, the elders of the Sage Forest were not fooled by Okcheonbi's clones and Goo Hwi eventually found him hiding in spirit-eating tree. Okcheonbi stepped out and confronted his old foe, conversing with him before preparing for battle. He summoned two puppets and used the Thousand Circle Formation of the Divine Heavenly Destruction Techniques to create a mountain encompassing sphere of resonance to limit his opponent's movements with an enormous amount of pressure. With Goo Hwi visibly struggling against the resonance, Okcheonbi commanded his two puppets to attack. However, Goo Hwi proved to be far stronger than he once was and easily dealt with the puppets. Okcheonbi was eventually defeated through the combined efforts of Goo Hwi, Yongbi and Gang Ryong with the young man finishing him off once and for all by consuming him with the Dan.

Powers & Abilities[]

As the Grand Prelate of the Asura Blood Sect, Okcheonbi was an immensely powerful martial artist and one of, if not the strongest member of the Blood Sect. A testament to his strength was that during his invasion on the Middle Kingdom, he was able to clash with legendary gosu such as Goo Hwi and Yongbi at the same time.[10] Even the clone he made while inferior to his real self, was shown to casually deflect a serious strike from Yongbi and demonstrate considerable might against the likes of Goo Hwi.[8] Okcheonbi also wielded the terrifying powers of the Dan granting him its benefits. In addition, his pressure points were destroyed during the war against the Murim, making him unable to use ki-based techniques but he has since recovered due to Hwan Sa's aid.[5]

Puppetry: Okcheonbi was seen using two humans as puppets to attack his opponents.[5]

Healing Factor: When in the possession of the Dan, Okcheonbi was able to regenerate the most gruesome of wounds, even after having his body reduced to paste.

Like the other members of the Blood Sect, Okcheonbi was a master of the Demonic Techniques, such as the Incorporeal Demonic Techniques, and the formidable Dark Blood Demonic Techniques which according to Goo Hwi, were of such power that it had all of the Murim shaking in fear:[9] The Demonic Techniques are incredibly dangerous because they involved the use of poison that caused rapid decay and distorted the victim meridians.[11] In addition, any wounds inflicted by the Demonic Techniques caused the victim to feel extreme pain.[12]

Demonic Techniques:

Divine Heavenly Destruction Techniques: He demonstrated the use of one of the Divine Heavenly Destruction Techniques and due to to his affiliation with Hwan Sa, it is mostly likely the Spirit Lord who taught him it.[5]

Life Drain Technique: Okcheonbi was taught a special technique of the Life Drain Technique by Hwan Sa where a person can gain power through a spirit-eating tree. The user can accumulate ki by feeding a vampiric tree their own flesh and blood to grow it into a spirit-eating tree. How Hwan Sa learned this technique to teach him is still yet unknown.[5]

Okcheonbi is also capable of using other unclassified techniques:
