History[]
In the past, Yuk Jingang feared that the barbarians would invade the Middle Kingdom one day so he ordered the Black Lancers to exterminate the Horselords in the borderlands.[1] As the war went on, he feared that his position of power would be threatened by other factions if it wasn't ended quickly,[2] so he recruited Yongbi to lead the Black Lancers to victory in exchange the young man's tainted past would be wiped clean.[3]
As the Black Lancers waged war under Yongbi's command, Yuk Jingang paid them a visit and urged Yongbi to end the war quickly. When he was about to leave, Jeok Seong asked him if they will truly receive pardons after the war was over and he confirms it, adding that the families of those that died will also receive compensation. However, this was a lie as earlier in his meeting with Yongbi, the Grand General made it clear that he only intended to spare the commander's life.[2]
Before the Black Lancer's final battle, unbeknownst to Yongbi, the Grand General had his men set up a trap in the Yogok Gorge, the location chosen by Yongbi to be the final battleground.[4] In the end, the trap successfully finished off both the Black Lancers and Horselords.
At some point, he found out about Yongbi's survival and ordered Lord Moonjoo to target the surviving families of the deceased Black Lancers members as well as to hunt down Yongbi.

Volume 3[]
The higher-ups of an assassin group discussed their failure to eliminate Yongbi. With the young man seemingly aware of their inner workings, he decided to break a few rules of their own and partner up with other assassin guilds.
With the Secret Sword School's repeated failures to take down Yongbi, Yuk Jingang decided to meet with Lord Moonjoo at an outpost in the middle of a large body of water. When Lord Moonjoo sat down, the Grand General questioned him if he knew the reason for the summon. Lord Moonjoo replied that it was to commission a new mission to which Yuk Jingang noted that the current mission to eliminate Yongbi was suppose to be the last. Then Lord Moonjoo reminded the Grand General that the latter promised to pardon him from his service with this mission but the Grand General offhandedly revealed he does not intend to keep his promise. Furthermore, Yuk Jingang commented that he was personally intervening in the hunt for Yongbi and told Lord Moonjoo to wash his hands of the situation as he did not believe they can succeed. However, Lord Moonjoo was unable to swallow these conditions, citing the critical losses of his agents and two sons (thinking Heukweol is dead). Lord Moonjoo then angrily called out the Grand General on how this was his plan all along and how he used the former's organization as bait, adding that the Grand General intended to dispose of them once they outlived their usefulness. Yuk Jingang slyly replied that he never asked for their deaths, only for Lord Moonjoo to wash his hands of the situation. Knowing that the Grand General still had far greater schemes in mind, Lord Moonjoo furiously called him out once more. At that, numerous warriors of the Secret Sword School appear and surround Yuk Jingang, angering the latter.
Volume 4[]
As the warriors of the Secret Sword School surrounded Yuk Jingang, they were suddenly beset with a barrage of arrows, wiping out a number of them. Lord Moonjoo inquired on the source of the attack before noticing a fleet of ships carrying the Grand General's forces emerging from the fog. At that, the Grand General told Lord Moonjoo that the latter had misunderstood the situation but stated that he will be punished for baring hostilities towards him. However, the Grand General gave Lord Moonjoo a chance to fight for his survival, adding he will not be harmed while on the outpost but promised that he will be hunted down in time.
Lord Moonjoo then took out a sphere and guaranteed vengeance before hurling the sphere at the ground, setting off a massive explosion that gave Lord Moonjoo the chance to escape with his subordinates. After the dust settled, it is revealed that half of the outpost was annihilated by the explosion but Yuk Jingang was unharmed. His forces chased after the members of Secret Sword School while he rebuked two of his men for interfering in the meeting.
In response to Lord Moonjoo's decision, Yuk Jingang had the military annihilate the Secret Sword School's headquarters and all its inhabitants. The Grand General later paid the Murim Alliance a visit.
